Deidre J. Herbert, Partner, McLellan Herbert, Vancouver BC. Ms. Herbert was an ad hoc Bencher for the Law Society of British Columbia (Unauthorized Practice) from 1992 until 1994 and is a former chair of the Canadian Bar Association Wills & Trusts (Vancouver) subsection. She is a contributing author to CLE’s Estate Planning and Wealth Preservation, CLE’s Annotated Estates Practice, and is a frequent lecturer for the Professional Legal Training Program and Continuing Legal Education. Ms. Herbert was also a member of the Intestate Succession, Wills Variation Act, and Family Relations Act Subcommittee as part of the Succession Law Reform Project.



Barbara Buchanan, Q.C., BA, MA, LLB, Practice Advisor, Conduct & Ethics, The Law Society of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC. Barbara provides confidential practice and ethics advice to lawyers in a wide variety of practice situations through her role at the Law Society of BC.  She also prepares publications and resources on behalf of the Law Society. Before her current role, Barbara was in private legal practice, was an adjudicator for administrative tribunals, and was General Counsel of an international company.  She has also taught law courses in a variety of settings both local and abroad. Called to the BC bar in 1988, Barbara also has a master’s degree in special education and has a background as a consultant for people with disabilities and people working with them.  Barbara is a member of a variety of professional and community organizations.   


Andrea E. Frisby, T.E.P., Legacy Tax + Trust Lawyers, Vancouver, BC.  Andrea focuses her practice on assisting clients with estate and trust planning and administration, both simple and complex. She prepares wills, trust documents, powers of attorney and representation agreements for clients, and also provides legal advice on estate and trust administration. Andrea has authored numerous papers in the areas of wills, estate, trusts and capacity issues and is a frequent speaker on these topics.


Dr. Stefanie Green, MDCM CCFP, Solace BC, Victoria, BC. Stefanie spent 10 years in general practice and another 12 years working exclusively in maternity and newborn care. Recently, she pivoted and started working in Medical Assistance in Dying. After some MAID education in The Netherlands she was one of a handful of physicians who started providing MAID care in Canada in June 2016. She is the President and co-founder of the Canadian Association of MAID Assessors and Providers  (CAMAP) and webmaster of CAMAP’s national listserv for MAID providers. Clinically she is focusing on providing Medical Assistance in Dying in and around Vancouver Island and making Canada a leader in this new field of medicine. She enjoys educating both the public and her peers about Medical Assistance in Dying and hosted MAID2017, a national conference on MAID in June. Dr Green is clinical faculty at UBC and UVic.


Leanne Lange, Clinical Specialist, Adult Abuse & Neglect, Fraser Health, Surrey, BC. Leanne has been Fraser Health’s Clinical Specialist, Adult Abuse & Neglect for the last seven years, leading Fraser Health’s response to adult abuse. She provides consultation and support to staff in hospitals, community programs, and residential care who respond to situations of abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults. She also develops resources and provides education to staff. Finally, she assists to solve system-level issues which affect vulnerable adults.

Joanne Taylor is Executive Director and Registrar of the Nidus Personal Planning Resource Centre and Registry, a non-profit, charitable organization. Joanne has helped thousands of people over some 20 years to learn about planning for incapacity, end-of-life, and other support needs. Nidus (a Latin term for nest) has a wealth of resource materials including videos and graphics on its website to help the public and professionals learn about concepts related to personal planning, health care consent, and adult guardianship.
