Mary Mouat, Q.C.Lawyer and Mediator, Quadra Legal Centre, Victoria, BC. Since her call to the Bar in 1988, Mary has maintained an active legal practice in Victoria. Over the years, she has focused her practice and now works exclusively in the area of family law. Mary’s practice includes collaborative law and she is a roster member of the Hear the Child Society. A qualified mediator since 1996, Mary is a roster member of Mediate BC and she is called upon regularly by families and lawyers to assist as a neutral mediator in disputes. Mary has been active in a variety of professional organizations, such as the Canadian Bar Association, B.C. Branch, the Law Foundation of British Columbia and the Victoria Bar Association.

John-Paul BoydJohn-Paul Boyd Arbitration Chambers, Calgary, AB. John-Paul E. Boyd, AOCA, MA, LLB, is a family law arbitrator, family law mediator and parenting coordinator. He is the principal of John-Paul Boyd Arbitration Chambers, providing services throughout all of Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, and counsel to the preeminent Calgary family law firm, Wise Scheible Barkauskas. He is a senior family law lawyer nationally known for his big-picture approach to family justice issues, contributions to public and professional legal education on family law, and special expertise in disputes concerning parenting, support and jurisdictional issues. John-Paul practised family law in Vancouver for 14 years before joining the Canadian Research Institute for Law and the Family, a non-profit organization affiliated with the University of Calgary, as its executive director in 2013. He took his training as a mediator in 2005, as a parenting coordinator in 2007, as an arbitrator in 2011 and as a collaborative practitioner in 2012. John-Paul has particular interests in law and procedural reform, children’s rights and involvement in justice processes, the impact of parental conflict on children, access to family justice and the psychology of separation and divorce.

   

Beatriz Contreras, Contreras McLennan, Victoria, BC. Beatriz was called to the Ontario Bar in 2003 and to the British Columbia Bar in 2011. Since 2003, she has practised primarily in the areas of Family Law and Immigration Law. Beatriz is a fully trained collaborative law lawyer and a member of the Collaborative Family Separation Professionals group in Victoria. In addition, she is accredited as a mediator by the Law Society of British Columbia and has broad-based experience with successfully mediating disputes. Beatriz has advocated on behalf of her clients at the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Supreme Court of British of Columbia, the Federal Court of Canada, the Ontario Court of Justice, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario as well as before various boards and tribunals including the Immigration and Refugee Board.

   

Agnes Huang, Saltwater Law, Vancouver, BC. Agnes runs a family law practice in downtown Vancouver, and has focused on family law since being called to the Bar in 2007. She clerked with the Federal Court of Canada, and graduated from UBC in 2005. Agnes has a strong public service history, having been active in pro bono legal advice clinics, and in the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Trial Lawyers Association of B.C.

   

Zahra JenabJenab & Company, West Vancouver, BC. Zahra has a philosophy of practising law with compassion. Following a Master of Arts degree in Political Science and International Relations, Zahra received her Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from the University of British Columbia in 1994. She established her own practice in April 2000 on the North Shore, where she continues to work and live. Zahra has always had a deeply rooted interest in non-adversarial resolution of legal issues, and her training in mediation, arbitration, and collaborative divorce provide her with the tools that she needs in assisting clients to reach the best possible solutions in family law situations. Zahra has represented clients at the BC Provincial, Supreme and Appeal court levels and has acted as a mediator in family matters. She has been accredited by the Law Society of BC as a family law mediator, arbitrator and parenting coordinator. She is also a member of the BC Parenting Coordination Roster Society and the BC Hear the Child Society.

   

Carla Lewis, Lewis McCourt Family Law and Mediation, Vancouver, BC. Following graduation from the University of Manitoba Law School in 1984, Carla was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1985. After working in Winnipeg for 5 years, she relocated to Vancouver and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1990. Carla Lewis has been practising family law since 1985. She is dedicated to obtaining the best results for clients using the approach that suits their individual circumstances.

   

Marjorie Thompson, Thompson Family Law, Victoria, BC. Marjorie’s practice includes family matters such as separation, pre-nuptial and cohabitation agreements, child sharing and support matters. She is an accredited family law mediator, family law arbitrator and a parenting coordinator, as well as a charter member and director of the BC Collaborative Roster Society and a member of the BC Parenting Coordinators Roster Society.
