Meet the Faculty

  • Founder, Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers, Toronto, ON

    Russell Alexander is the founder of Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers and Amazon bestselling author. He has recently published “AI and the Legal Profession, Russell Alexander’s Guide to Separation, Divorce, and Family Law”, which explores questions such as: will AI improve access to justice and reduce costs? Can you be negligent for failing to implement AI in your practice? Russell answers these questions and more by examining how the development of AI is revolutionizing the legal industry, and the benefits and challenges to remaining competitive.

    Having practiced family law for over 25 years, Russell crafts creative solutions unique to each client, enabling them and their families to move forward with their lives. Russell is passionate about sharing his knowledge and experience of collaborative practice, technology, and family law at various conferences. He is the host of a podcast and virtual event series, Family Law Now. Russell established the Russell Alexander Giving Fund to support the community through his firm’s charitable work. He is a member of several local collaborative practice groups and law associations.

  • Director of Legal Innovation and Lawyer, Caravel Law, Toronto, ON

    Monica Goyal is an entrepreneur, lawyer, and innovator. She applies her technological experience to her legal practice to provide accessible and affordable solutions for the legal needs of business owners. She has developed innovative platforms like My Legal Briefcase and Aluvion Law that utilize technology to create democratic legal solutions for businesses and individuals.

    Monica has an undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo. She is also a graduate of Stanford University where she obtained her Masters in Electrical Engineering. She began her career as an engineer in research and development working for major telecommunications companies like Toshiba, Nortel and Nokia before obtaining her law degree from the University of Toronto.

    She was part of the Canadian Bar Association’s Futures Initiatives. Monica is currently an adjunct professor at York University where she teaches Legal Information Technology. In addition, she continues to oversee My Legal Briefcase and a legal practice.

    Monica has also been a featured expert on numerous television programs from Sun TV to the Newman Show, and has written extensively about law and technology for national and international press. She was named one of 10 Women to Watch in Tech in the Journal of the American Bar Association and was nominated by Canadian Lawyer Magazine for their Top 25 influential changemakers.

  • Co-Founder and CEO of Haloo Inc.

    Julie is the Co-Founder and CEO of Haloo (formerly known as Heirlume), a VC-backed deep AI startup accelerated by Google. Under her leadership, Haloo has garnered significant attention and recognition, featuring in esteemed publications such as Forbes, Bloomberg, World Trademark Review, Business Insider, TechCrunch, and BetaKit.

    With a wealth of experience as a senior-level lawyer specializing in Trademark and Intellectual Property (IP), Julie is a sought-after domain expert in her field, regularly contributes insightful commentary on IP law to major media outlets, including the Globe & Mail, the Toronto Star, and CBC.

    Julie is also a long-time advocate and activist in the areas of civil liberties, human rights, Indigenous rights and children’s rights.

  • Associate, Virgin Law Group, Vancouver, BC

    Kevin Robertson practices civil litigation, family law, and insurance defense at Virgin Hickman. He is a passionate investigator of technology and is always keen to dive into its potential application to law. Kevin is actively involved in his community and is the President of a non-profit organization that provides housing and support services to those that are homeless or struggling with addiction. He had the pleasure of growing up in the Okanagan and continues to reside there with his partner and two children. Together, they enjoy practicing yoga, playing soccer, and appreciating all that the beautiful outdoors of the Okanagan has to offer.
