  • Pauline Cusack

    Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

    Ms. Cusack is a graduate of Dalhousie Law School and is a founding director of Pacific Business & Law Institute. She is also a founding director of the non-profit, public policy research organization the Summit Institute Society and President and Director of the Asia Pacific Institute, the latter of which she co-founded in Hawaii in the late 1980's. She has been involved in the research, organization and direction of hundreds of conferences across the country for over twenty years. Pauline is originally from Nova Scotia and moved to Vancouver in 1980. She has experience in international development having worked in Cameroon, West Africa as Directrice of College Fougou in Bangwa. Prior to co-founding PBLI, Pauline was a partner at a full-service, downtown law firm specializing in real estate development, corporate and commercial law. She has been on various boards over the years. She is the mother of two sons, Rory and James, and is a keen gardener.

  • Camille Israël

    Director of Programming

    Ms. Israël joined PBLI in 2018 as Programming Lawyer, and became Director of Programming in 2020. Prior to joining PBLI, Ms. Israël practised Aboriginal law in Victoria, BC, specializing in band governance, consultation, specific claims, and treaty implementation. She has also been involved in the organization of a number of events, lectures and conferences. She received her J.D. from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia in 2013, and she also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology) from UBC, and studied piano performance at the École de Musique Vincent d’Indy in Montreal. She currently volunteers as a Brownie leader with the Girl Guides of Canada. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, watching hockey, and hiking.

  • Jessica Chan

    Director of Operations and Event Management

    Jessica first joined PBLI as the Customer Service Coordinator after graduating from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology. She has over 10 years of customer service experience. She enjoys staying active in the community through volunteer work. For the past eleven years, she has been a volunteer facilitator with the Richmond Restorative Justice Program at Touchstone Family Association, a non-profit community based social service agency. She also volunteers as support for A Loving Spoonful’s fundraising campaigns and events, which include Candy Grams, Project Empty Bowl, and World AIDS Day Luncheon. She was also previously a member of the Youth Advisory Council with the YWCA Fund Development Team. Jessica enjoys spending time with family, friends, travelling, and playing sports.

  • Angela Zhou, M.Eng.

    Director of Technical Operations and DBA

    Angela earned her Master’s degree of Computer Application from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics after graduating from Nanjing Institute of Meteorology in China. In 2009, she completed the Applied Database Administration and Design Certificate Program at BCIT, Vancouver. She has experience in project development and management having worked in Australia as a team leader in Queensland University of Technology. Prior to joining PBLI, Angela was a Database Administrator at Nanjing Education Bureau. As an IT professional for over 10 years, she has gained extensive knowledge in design, implementation, administration and backup & recovery of relational databases and is also a seasoned veteran SQL & Crystal Report Developer. She has wide interests in office administration, marketing, volunteer and even cooking. She volunteered as an interpreter of Vancouver School Board and also enjoyed a brief experience cooking in downtown Vancouver. She loves to travel and enjoys cruising around the world.

  • Jewely Schmitke

    Office Manager

    Jewely first joined Pacific Business and Law Institute as the Customer Service Coordinator and expanded the position into the Office Manager. She has a passion for customer service and organization; she brings her expertise and skills in managing all the administrative tasks and ensuring the daily operations run smoothly. She holds a diploma in Legal Studies and is committed to providing PBLI delegates outstanding customer service. Jewely values spending time with her dog, friends and family, as well as enjoying the many outdoor activities Vancouver has to offer.
